Make LA Streets Better

1st time I saw his gigantic raw photos, on the huge warehouse doors near Little Tokyo, I was, and still amazed.  JR, the 27yrs old Parisian artist, adds a whole new depth to the city sky lines.  Unfortunately, not long after, graffiti is all over them.  No offense, graffiti art admires me as well (I even have a friend who does it) but don't we just want the city streets better?  Why can't we respect each other as individual artist, and make the world better TOGETHER?

Daily Digest

'Brands are more and more multidimensional.  It's about an experience as well as buying a product.  And I think what we've found is the more we entertain, the more we allow people into our brand.  Then maybe one day they'll buy.  And then... who knows?'

Blow Bubbles to Make This World Better

This is one of my favorite commercials.  Even a guy like my hubby who hates commercials, he still is unwilling to say, 'this is good.  Hope you enjoy it.

Type Assignment-Type Poster Final

I am inspired every time when listening to the song, Firefly, from Owl City. I took the lyric and created a poster designated for an outdoor concert in summer.  The whole concept is inspired by one of my retreats up to Michigan, barn fire, clear sky in the night, the stars shinning like diamonds over my head.  It's magical.  Living in a city like LA, I haven't seen anything like it, and would like to bring the experience to the audience.

When: summer
Where: Bellaire, Michigan
How: outdoor concert in night
Target market: 20-up, single or married, or family, who appreciate nature and also those who
have been disconnected from the source and want to reconnect again

Lyric is shaped according to the inspiration of north light.  Mixing San Serif and Serif gives the depth of the space.  The selected font also brings out the effect of twinkle, twinkle little stars.  Shades of gradient purple creates the exact feeling of the night up north.  Moderate portion of the title nicely flows together with the rest which brings the harmonious feeling for the viewers.

p.s. I didn't do this alone.  Thanks for my devoted teacher, Scott Moss.

Type Assignment-Type Poster Approach

I am inspired every time when listening to the song, Firefly, from Owl City.  This song has been spinning around my ears all the time since 2009 summer.  Doesn't it just make you happy when you hear it?  I took the lyric and design a poster for an outdoor concert in summer; which is, also is inspired by one of my retreat to Michigan.  It was a clear night, the stars shinning like diamonds over my head.  I haven't seen anything like it, and would like to bring the experience to the audience.

Target market: 20-up, single and family, who appreciate nature with music and also those who have been disconnected from the source
Place: Bellaire, Michigan
Event: outdoor concert in night
Time: summer

I start with several different approach.  One with greens, and you're just kind of peeking through the sparkling sky.  For the top, I use more summery color compared with simple blue night color.

One with city lights reflects the beauty of the sky.  Falling stars design of lyric gives a good contrast.
Colors I choose shades of purple, and purple with shades of blue give a calm rhythm vs city black and light pollution.

One with stars sort of falls from the sky and brings out the topic of the event.  I use shades of purple and blue which is very close to actual color of the nights in summer.

Several attempts of laying out the titles...structures all may look simple but take me hours to play around the design.  Above is the 1st and 2nd attempts, and below is the rest.

Package Design for Household, Japan

I remember 1st time I saw this was at Jusco in Japan, cute graphic with fluffy product design and details, drawn my attention.  This is the design for bathroom floor mat, emphasis on absorption, and quick dry.  Using a female elephant expresses perfectly the product itself, and a product description tag for the result of using micro fiber as the material strengthens the credibility of itself.

Sorry, I was Late!

It's been a hectic month.  Good friends of mine coming to visit, moving to a new lovely house, and saying Goodbye to my 'lots of memories' old apt...when I thought that it is enough, my final project was approaching.  Honestly, I already had the picture, in my head, how it will go and look as soon as hearing this project, and still, I spent hours on just the title of the poster, sigh.  Sorry that I left for so long.

Now I'm back, and hope believe there are more to come in my new life.

Type Assignment-7 Final

You will see a graduated progress, and at the end, I believe that you just have to be true to yourself, and find what's the best for the subject, and design around it.  Hope you all like this journey.
