Happy Birthday to a little princess

I hardly hand-draw anything[ I'm a designer, and this doesn't sound very conincing to people], and instead, I usually take my camera wherever I go, shooting pictures.  However, I'm trying to change this part of characteristic of my habbit, and for a lovely princess, I just need to Do it.  Now I carry a scatch book in my pocket to draw if I see something interesting.  It's working...not as good as my camera though:P

I found this country-vintage style card by Shabby Chic @Micheal's handcrafting store.  It's good quality, and all purpose so you can use it as house-warming invitation, birthday card, thank-U note...etc.  a huge matte blank can let you express whatever you desire.

Rafa Nadal US Open series commercial

U have to know little background of this, the older person behind, John McEnroe, who is also a World No1, and famous tennis player in 70-80s. And of course, Rafa Nadal, the muscle man, driving in the front is world No1 right now.  So the beauty of this Ad is that it has not only heritage and competition from old to new generation.

Type-assignment 4

I enjoy this stage of design, mainly about design columns for publishers; which is, one of my focus.
I can't wait to see more breakthrough through out the process.

The article I found is about the 3rd wave of coffee, another revolution in coffee industry by Josh Ozersky, an award wining food writer.  I love the fact that the context has a contrary view regarding to coffee culture compared with American stereotype.  Meanwhile, it's educational, and close to every one's daily life, of course, if you drink coffee.

I fascinate of designing object which is close to/inspired by daily life.  So people/audience are easy to be touch/felt and have the immediate feedback.

Next Big thing of Rachel Zoe

I like her business mind, efficient and right to the point.  For her style, a bit too loud for me but hey, it's Hollywood!  To survive here, I guess you have to go Big.  Now she's launching her line on Neiman Marcus, for only 2 weeks!  http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/templates/SC3.jhtml?itemId=cat39500731&ecid=NMALR30KlfRmrMDo

Play Tennis on the busy London Street?!!

Catching up my tennis fave, I spot some good commercials, played by top tennis players.  Some are ...[to be honest, they're not actors so it's ok ], some are creative which remind me of the classic K-Swiss shoes commercial in 70s, also made by sports players.  You probably see it sometimes but I'll try to find it out for you guys.

This one is featured by one of the top Tennis player, Andy Murray, as w known as the "UK hope."

Type-assignment 2- Inspired by daily life

First, I was stunned, and unable to make the project happen.  The thing is, in reality, I haven't had the luxury to put whatever long, short, big, small columns that I wanted to wherever I desired, and of course, this is the assignment about--to explore the composition, and the space among.

After playing just structure of simple lines, I decide to close my laptop and have my holiday begin.  2 weeks back, along with lots of brain storming over a bowl of ramen noodles, I discover another way to approach.  Realizing designers will surely explore the negative space and more space in between, I decide to use words as blocks into the space.

I remember I was taking my usual camera walk to the flea market near by, and spotted this amazing bench, reminding me of Frank Lloyd Wright designed furniture in early 20s to 40s.  The simple lines form a beautiful structure.  Simple but stunning.  I was awe! and inspired to put it on canvas.    Unfortunately, it sort of looses its focus becoming more graphic driven which I later discover this will address interior design company slogan nicely with its promoted subject.

Then, the Ikat pattern of my skirt draws my attention, beautiful hand-crafting, and precisely balanced with beauty.

I had hard time[which always happens when I'm in a maze], but in the mean time, brought back my profound memory of the trip to this sweet pea maze in San Diego. Certainly, this is the fun part to play a maze with text, not only figuring my way out but trying to be symmetrical as possible.  Still, I miss some of text and torn unrecognizable.

What the world would be like without Andy Warhol?  I dedicated my trip to Huntington park to see his work.  Piles of his early design of soap boxes stack one after another.  Only this one nutty box sticking its head out among all.  You all can say repetition is old but it catches your eyes, right.

What I like the most in this project is, FINALLY, I can brand my name in the way that I feel its beauty.  Syl-via, thru my eyes, you will see things in different prospective.  And yes, I did it, in this project.

info: Huntington Library in Pasadena has both exhibition of Andy Warhol, and early Frank L. Wright works right now.  It's a great counter of emotion when in front of actual objects from great masters from quite different generations.  http://www.huntington.org/
