Package Design for Pet Grooming Product-Cont'd

So now the outer box is completed.  It is time for the merchandise inside.  I'd like to do something like an individual packed pet shampoo to convenience the busy lifestyle my target market has.  Additionally, I want to add a little spark to my merchandise as well so people will talk about it which is a good way to PR the brand.

After all, I proudly introduce you,  the DRAIN DOLLY.

I choose matte black with a bit texture to bring out the 'high-end' look, and try to keep it neutral, and simple so I can cover both female, and male market.  In the mean time, I try to collaborate Welsh Corgi into my design, in physical kind of way, eg: short-legs from Welsh Corgi(the bottom supports of the box design), or Corgi's round butt, and body ( the top opening, and the body of box design itself).  So visually, the design can bring the connections of Welsh Corgi together. 讓設計和視覺到位.

p.s. special thanks to Gary Wolin from McManus&Morgan, Inc., helping me out to understand papers, history, and how to manipulate the material so everything works together as a whole.  Also, the Pepin press, Structural Package Design.

Some quick sketches...

Before the design, see the inspiration.  I'd like to take some of the features of the famous British dog, Welsh Corgi into my design, big ears, short-legs, body shape...etc.

Package Design for Pet Grooming Product

The past few months I had been working on this project and I'm telling you it's not easy but I'm glad that I had my mentor, Scott Moss, principal graphic designer of Walt Disney Imagineering, to guide me.  And now I'd like to share with you the final.

Everyone Has An Attorney in LA

'You need to hire a New York attorney.'
'I know one, by the way.'

Overheard the conversation, it is like any other casual conversations on the LA metro.  Not surprisingly, having a personal lawyer or a plastic surgeon seems a fashionable thing to catch, like wearing a pair of fur boots in 50 something degree sunny LA winter.

Fleet to the Wonderland, a X'mas Decor Idea

I met the owner of Fleet at 'Dwell on Design' in LA.  She finds the beauty in the simple things which draws me the attention.  Especially her signature Shell lamp, just like her personality, quiet but it is the center of the spot.  I have one sitting next to my nightstand and have fallen in love since.  check out her design live from Canada at http://www.fleetobjects.com/

Package Design for Stationery, Origami, Japan

Due to recent package project, I start to experience Japanese origami for more ideals and inspiration.  Then, I found this starter kit including different patterns of papers and very easy, simple origami instructions along to interest 1st time user who don't want to spend a lot of money to get a hang of it.  And it works, both for a starter, and I as an intermediate to look for fun.  Since I'm working for a package design, I feel the need to share the package design behind it which is not only functional, eco-friendly, but marketable.  For example, the sheet in the back shows you what you will learn so you know if you're up to it or interested in.  Then the front panel,' Origami' shown as a brand name/marketing banner, is also used as an instruction manual once open.  And the window at the front top right corner presents you what colors and patterns are in.  So complex but so simple, and smart that I can't help to pick one up, having some fun, and maybe, I'll get some great ideas for my designs and also for X'mas packaging.

Lessons from Men's Accessories

"With my sunglasses on, I’m Jack Nicholson. Without them, I’m fat and 60"
- Jack Nicholson

I always love to peak into men's wear for ideals, and often, there are always surprise finds, hats, shoes, ties...which gives a great kick in my lady's look so I don't appear too boxy, and old lady like.  Till, I read this article from 'Ask Men' website, http://www.askmen.com/fashion/keywords/accessories-for-men.html,
and finally it dumps on me, 'oh, that's how it works! simple, and clean, not mentioning the part about wallet padded.'

Share with you the article below from 'Ask Men'.

Unless you live on a beach, it's hard to get out of wearing pants, a shirt and shoes on a daily basis. Accessories, on the other hand, are items you wear for one of two reasons: because they perform some sort of practical function, like a belt that holds up your pants, or because they enhance your outfit stylistically, like a killer leather cuff or a bit of bling. When it comes to fashionably standing out in a crowd, it's the latter category of accessory that can really make your outfit pop.

From cufflinks to cell phones, the accessories you choose to wear or carry can have a dramatic impact on your appearance; they make your look truly yours. Though many men may not realize it, accessories perk up even the most basic ensembles, making tried-and-true wardrobe staples look fresh again. So, instead of overhauling your wardrobe several times a year, simply have a quick browse through our accessories features every now and again to ensure your style is always up to date, but that your wallet remains heavily padded.

MoMa in JCPenny

'Design' is sneaking upon us!  It's easy to approach than ever, just right at JCPenny, which caters to those who like a bit high end, but price is more approachable.  Sort like Target's slogan, 'Expect more, Pay less.'  Used to, I have to  fly all the way to New York, just to see all these amazing product designs.  Have you seen it?  go to MoMa's website: http://www.moma.org/ and you'll know what I mean.

Anyway, JCP teams up with MoMa, and carries its famous product design stuff to our daily life which makes more fun because of those crazy ideas/beauties that artists find to utilize in our daily routines.  There are so many genius ideas that I haven't though of (some may work; some don't...just to warn you before drop your pants)  Surrounded by those designs every day definitely is a pick-up in this economy.

November is the Month to Say 'Thanks'

IT's the month for the 'Thanksgiving', the month before 'Chirstmas', 'New Year', and the following 'New Me' Resolution.  Before all that, I think this is the best time to say thanks to those who company me, form me, frustrate me...along the way this year.  Because of all, I become a better self, in different way.

Packaging Design for Food, Japan

the container inside holds the form of package and Pockys is a cutout for witch hat, below

It is the most-loved holiday here, in LA.  I wonder if candies or dress-up makes everyone crazy or something else.  I decide to pay a visit to Little Tokyo, and old town Pasadena, to see how far this holiday can be extended, and am surprised to spot not only kids but adults putting on different costumes walking around like the street as their own fashion show.  I feel I were in the Comic Con.

And suddenly I fall into the memory of the park in Tokyo where youngsters dressing up as Lolita to show their rebellion of the pressing society.

2 different cities, 2 different reflection of life.  Trick or treat.
